Título:LH, FSH responses to GnRH in lepromatous leprosy
..-
Fonte:s.l; s.n; jun. 1979. 2 p. graf.
Resumo:Significant rise in serum LH and FSH and a fall in serum testosterone have been reported in lepromatous leprosy (Dash, Samuel, Kaur, Datta and Rastogi 1978). This is consistent with extensive damage to the tubular and interstitial cells of the testes (Grabstald and Swan 1952; Desican and Job 1972; Bernard and Veraquez 1973; Samuel, Kumar, Kaur, Kannan, Dash, Rastogi and Datta 1978).(AU).

Resumo:Impotency, sterility, loss of libido, loss of sexual hair and gynecomastia are well documented in patients suffering from leprosy. They occur with greater frequency in lepromatous leprosy as compared to dimorphous and tuberculois types.(AU).

Título:Rôle du blocage lymphatique spermatique dans les lesions testiculaires de la lépre lepromateuse avec gynecomastie
Role of spermatic lymphatic obstruction in the testicular lesions of lepromatous leprosy with gynecomastia-
Fonte:s.l; s.n; Jul.-Aug. 1971. 5 p. ilus, tab.
Resumo:Clinical, biological and pathological study of seven negro male patients suffering from lepromatous with gynecomastia. On biopsy microscopic sections of the tests has been shown an important interstitial edema suggesting lymphatic stasis. Spermatic lymphographies show in every case a clogging which can be considered as an additional factor of testicular disorder..(AU).

Título:Endocrine testicular functions in leprosy
..-
Fonte:s.l; s.n; mar. 1984. 5 p. tab.
Resumo:Pituitary testicular functions were evaluated in leprosy. Forty-three men with leprosy were studied by basal estimations of plasma LH, FSH, Prolactin, Testosterone, 17-beta estradiol, metoclopramide stimulated prolactin responses and hCG stimulated testosterone responses. Fifteen young healthy men with proven fertility were studied as control subjects. The hormone estimations were related to the histologic changes observed in the testicular biopsies of leprous hypogonadism. In lepromatous leprosy (n:18) the basal plasma gonadotropin levels were significantly increased (FSH 29.5 +/- 2.3 mlU/ml; LH 21.5 +/- 1.9 mlU/ml, mean +/- SE). The plasma gonadotropins were in the normal range in tuberculoid leprosy. In borderline leprosy, the basal mean plasma FSH was normal, whereas LH levels were significantly increased (22.5 +/- 1.2 mlU/ml). The basal plasma testosterone levels were significantly decreased in lepromatous leprosy (1.6 +/- 0.12 ng/ml), tuberculoid leprosy (4.2 +/- 1.7 ng/ml) and borderline leprosy (1.8 +/- 0.18 ng/ml). The basal plasma 17-beta estradiol levels were significantly elevated in all the three types of leprosy. The basal plasma prolactin levels in plasma were significantly increased in lepromatous and tuberculoid leprosy. During hCG stimulation tests, the peak plasma testosterone responses were significantly reduced in both lepromatous leprosy and tuberculoid leprosy subjects. The blunted testosterone responses during hCG stimulation tests in leprosy correlated with the high basal 17-beta estradiol levels (r = 0.58; P less than 0.05). These results strongly suggest that hypogonadism in leprosy results from primary testicular failure. The significant elevation of plasma 17-beta estradiol levels in lepromatous, tuberculoid and borderline leprosy could play a role in hypogonadism of leprosy.(AU).

Título:Hormonal changes associated with testicular atrophy and gynaecomastia in patients with leprosy
..-
Fonte:s.l; s.n; apr. 1977. 5 p. graf.
Resumo:Basal LH, FSH, 17 beta-oestradiol and testosterone and the gonadotrophin responses to luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) were studied in male patients with leprosy (twenty-four with lepromatous and six with tuberculoid leprosy). The mean basal LH and FSH was significantly elevated in the lepromatous group and was associated with an excessive response of both gonadotrophins following LHRH administration. The mean basal testosterone and 17 beta-oestradiol values in the lepromatous group were significantly lower than those of the tuberculoid and control groups. The abnormal gonadotrophin and sex steroid values in the lepromatous group are in keeping with the testicular atrophy and gynaecomastia accompanying this form of leprosy. However, the lack of a significant correlation between basal FSH and testicular atrophy should be noted. In addition, no correlation between any of these hormonal values and gynaecomastia could be demonstrated. The patients with tuberculoid leprosy had essentially normal hormonal profiles (except for two who had raised 17 beta-oestradiol values). This is compatible with the lack of gonadal involvement in these patients.(AU).
